The 7 day Summer-Gasshuku of the Hokushin Ittō-Ryū Hyōhō at the Chiba-Dōjō was a great success! There came students from the Dōjō and Dōkōkai of the school from all over the world in order to study the school directly under Ōtsuka Yōichirō (the 6th Sōke) and Ōtsuka Ryūnosuke (the 7th Sōke). In total there were 30 participants coming from Japan, Germany, USA, Switzerland, Portugal, Hungary and Italy. The training was very hard and severe as the Seminar focused on Gekiken, especially on Uchikomi-Geiko.
On Saturday the 3rd of September, 6 students recieved the Kirigami Makimono from Ōtsuka Ryūnosuke-Sōke after successfully passing the exam. Congratulations for this to Roth Torben (Osnabrück), Hevele Zoltan (Budapest), Pracht Philipp (Bonn), Kocis Imre (Budapest), Kulcsar Imre (Munich) and Bello Nicolo (Florence).
Hirata Fuhō Fujiwara no Genshin, Kendō 8. Dan Kyoshi and over 30 years of Ono-ha Ittō-Ryū and 25 years of Jikishinkage-ryū practitioner, recieved the Chū-Mokuroku / Menkyo of the Hokushin Ittō-Ryū Hyōhō from Ōtsuka Ryūnosuke-Sōke. Hirata-Sensei demonstrated superb skill with the sword while practicing the Kōjō-Gokui Goten no Kata and having a Gekiken Shiai-Geiko with full contact done without Bōgu, directly with Ōtsuka Ryūnosuke-Sōke, who was very impressed by the level of skill shown by Hirata-Sensei. Hirata Fuhō-Sensei thus officially joined the Hokushin Ittō-Ryū Hyōhō with doing Keppan and is now a Shihan of the Ryūha. He will also be demonstrating the Kōjō Gokui Goten no Kata directly with Ryūnosuke-Sōke at the end of this year in Japan at an Enbu.

They climbed 3 mountaintops, trained on rocky mountain paths, meditated and camped beneath the stars. Ice-cold mountain creeks provided not only drink but also the only opportunities to bath. As in former times, the whole Musha-Shugyō was done wearing only Hakama, Gi and traditional footwear.

The Hokushin Ittō-Ryū Seminar in Braga Portugal, taking place from 10th of June till 13th of June, was concluded successfully. Due to hot weather Ōtsuka Ryūnosuke-Sōke decided to teach the 9th Kajō of the Kajō-Mokuroku, the so-called Chigyō no Koto, in a practical demonstration at a close-by beach. The essence of Chigyō no Koto teaches how to fight on the outside, including the appropriate choice of ashiwaza (footwork) in order to survive on a battlefield. While correct footwork on a wet beach becomes hard, when compared to the regular Dōjō situation, fighting while positioned in the swallow water near the beach proofs even more difficult. The supporting sand below ones feet is washed away by surging waves and one has to adapt very quickly with good ashiwaza to be able to perform precise techniques. The footwork of Hokushin Ittō-Ryū is transmitted as Kuden (orally transmission) in the Chigyō no Koto and allows the swordman to move freely in difficult terrain and employ his surroundings to his advantage.

Naturally one strong focus was the correct application of Kiriotoshi, a central element in the Yonjūsanbon no Kata. Training was challenging and exhausting, but all participants gave their best to fulfill the expectations of Ryūnosuke-Sōke.

The Hokushin Ittō-Ryū Hyōhō was passed on from the 6th to the 7th generation Sōke at the Nakano Sunplaza-Hotel in Tōkyō on the 26th of March 2016. Ōtsuka Yōichirō Taira no Masanori, the 6th Sōke of the school passed it on to his successor and Menkyo-Kaiden, Ōtsuka Ryūnosuke Taira no Masatomo, who in turn became the 7th Sōke of the Hokushin Ittō-Ryū Hyōhō on that day. He also became the first non-Japanese Sōke of a traditional Japanese Koryū-Bujutsu school in history, who was formally appointed to this position in order to pass on the school to the next generation. During the ceremony there were 63 chosen guests present to celebrate the appointment of the 7th Sōke Ōtsuka Ryūnosuke. To just name a few of them: the 5th Sōke of the Hokushin Ittō-Ryū Hyōhō and current head of the main branch of the Chiba-family, Chiba Hiroshi Taira no Masatane; the 17th head of the Nihon Kyōkai, Kendō 8th Dan Kyoshi and over 30 year Ono-ha Ittō-Ryū practicioner, Hirata Fuhō; Kendō 7th Dan Kyoshi, Shiina Shirō; Head of the Tennen Rishin-Ryū Bujutsu Hozonkai and Tennen Rishin-Ryū Menkyo-Kaiden Kato Kyōji; Tennen Rishin-Ryū Chugokui-Mokuroku and Shihan-dai, Furzi Sandro; Mugai-Ryū Shihan Kobayashi Yoshiyasu; the 10th head of the Sakamoto-family (family of Sakamoto Ryōma), Sakamoto Masahirō and many more. We are very grateful to all guests who celebrated this historical event of our school with us and to all who helped to organize and sponsor it. Special thanks go also to the people who performed a demonstration at the ceremony. Those were Hanayagi Kashichirō-Sensei and his performance of Hanayagi-Ryū (traditional Japanese Kabuki dance), Ishii Suguru and his masterly Taiko-performance of the Hachijō-Daiko, Kato Kyōji-Sensei and Furzi Sandro-Sensei and their powerful Tennen Rishin-Ryū demonstration and finally to Lyutov Dmitry-Shidōin and Klaaßen Jan-Shidōin for their Hokushin Ittō-Ryū Ai-Kodachi Enbu.
Of course there are many more people to thank on this point, who helped to make this event so special, but that would be too much for a mere Facebook post.
